The clinic operates on a sliding scale fee structure according to income. This is a fee system that is used in clinics worldwide, to ensure equal accessibility to their services, regardless of your income. We have been particularly inspired by integrated health clinics in Canada and the USA that work like this, and the concept is now slowly spreading. If a sliding scale is implemented effectively, everyone pays a similar percentage of their income for the same services. Paying according to one’s available resources creates a more equitable system for pricing of products and services.
At this time Herbal Medicine is largely confined to private medicine, which makes universal access more of a dream than a reality. At Rhizome Community Herbal Clinic we would like everyone to be able to access herbal medicine if they need to, and our sliding scale structure helps to bring us towards this goal. Rhizome Clinic receives no public or private funding. We are herbalists who are dedicated to providing our services in as much of a socially and financially inclusive way as we can, whilst still supporting ourselves with an income.
We believe that communities can support each other; fees paid on the continuum of the sliding scale make herbal medicine possible for more people. By supporting this clinic with you are enabling more people to access our services, and to be able to use herbal medicine as part of their long-term healthcare.
If your financial situation changes during the course of your treatment with the clinic please feel free to discuss this with us.
